Be Prepared to Weep With Envy When You See Robert A.M. Stern’s 200 East 83rd Street

200East83rd

“200 East 83rd inhabits its height with confidence, with a wonderful silhouette, visible from a great distance.” — Robert A.M. Stern The latest ridiculously luxurious new residential tower in New York has begun sales. Hankies at the ready, folks, because this place is beyond gorgeous. Can money buy taste? In this case, we’d say yes. No soulless glass tower here. Instead, beautiful limestone slabs, sweeping curves, and nods to New York’s fabled Art Deco past are the order of business here. The 449-foot-tall residential tower, on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, was designed by Robert A.M. Stern. The 35-story building boasts 86 condominiums, including some jaw-dropping penthouses. Sales have begun on the one- to six-bedroom units, which are priced from $2.05 million to $32 million, while the tower’s three penthouses, each five or six bedrooms, will carry prices from $23 million to $32 million. One-bedrooms measuring from 984 square feet start at $2.05 million, two-bedrooms start at $3.175 million, three-bedrooms from $4.35 million, and four-bedrooms from $5.35 million. Repped by Compass, 26 apartments are already in contract within a week of sales beginning, with asking prices that range from $3.6 million to $11.4 million. So far, renderings are all we have, but they’re enough. Just look at the building’s crown — it’s distinctive and beautiful in the way the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building are. The penthouses will all include some private outdoor space, including the uppermost one that spills out to a heart-stopping outdoor dining area where a massive arch frames an epic view over and beyond the city. Lower apartments are pretty swell, too, each averaging about 2,000 square feet. Building amenities include a gated motorcourt for discreet comings and goings; a spa with a steam room, sauna, and treatment rooms; a resident courtyard and winter garden; a private media room; and playrooms for children of different age groups. In fact, the entire 17th floor is devoted to resident pampering, with the aforementioned wellness facilities along with a landscape terrace, and a lovely yoga room. Above the seventh level, there are no more than four apartments per floor. Floors 32 and 33 are full-floor penthouses, while the building’s uppermost unit is a duplex showstopper that sprawls across the entirety of the 34th and 35th floors. Deep pockets? A love for traditional architecture? Just want a room that’s not in your apartment for the kids to play? Go for it! Please, invite us to the housewarming.
