Manhattan Penthouse in Robert A.M. Stern Building Sells for $27 Million, a Record for Third Avenue

200East83rd

A penthouse at a new Robert A.M. Stern-designed building on Manhattan’s Upper East Side has gone into contract for $27 million, according to the listing agent. The off-market deal for the 5,835-square-foot penthouse at 200 East 83rd, located at the corner of Third Avenue, is the priciest sale recorded on Third Avenue, according to sales records. It boasts six bedrooms and seven bathrooms, plus a private loggia with views of the city and Central Park, according to listing agent Alexa Lambert of Compass Development Marketing Group. “We are excited but not at all surprised by this record sale at 200 East 83,” Ms. Lambert, who is exclusively handling sales for the building, said in an email. “The apartment itself is incredibly special with wonderful architectural details and amazing views.” Ms. Lambert declined to identify the buyer, but noted they were from New York. Mansion Global could not identify the buyer of the residence, or independently confirm the price, as records of the deal have not yet been made public. The penthouse also features arched windows framing views from every room, more than 14-foot ceilings and an eat-in kitchen with a den. Robert A.M. Stern Architects designed the 35-story tower with an Indiana limestone facade, one of the firm’s signatures. It is embossed with wildflowers native to the area and also has intricate ironwork and a blackened nickel front door. The project will have 86 residences, with interiors designed by Rottet Studio, an architecture and design firm based in Houston, Texas, and with offices in New York, Los Angeles and Hong Kong. It also has a suite of amenities available to all residents. That includes a 70-foot pool with double-height vaulted ceilings on the 17th floor, a porte-cochere, a private courtyard, a winter garden, a wood- and leather-paneled library with a fireplace and a Rottet Studio-designed marble mantelpiece and an adjacent garden. There’s also a wellness center and 24-hour doorman and concierge services. “The pool is complete magic and the fact that everyone in the building, whether they are a penthouse buyer or not, will have access to views and outdoor space from the amenities is really special,” Ms. Lambert continued. Developed by Naftali Group and Rockefeller Group, the property launched sales in October.
